Take Five with Lee Pearson CBE

I took the opportunity to catch up with our sponsored rider Lee Pearson CBE during our photo shoot for our Spring/ Summer campaign for Bliss Bedding. Lee rode ‘Gentleman’, a 17.2hh 11 year old Hanoverian Gelding for the photo shoot. When asked to describe Gentleman, Lee’s words were “temperamental, awkward, opinionated, sharp- in fact the sharpest horse that I have ever trained, he should have been born a mare!”, but the pictures that were gleaned from the shoot show that Gentleman has such a presence, and he knows it! Lee described his relationship with Gentleman as a “love/ hate relationship” but Gentleman is the most medalled horse Lee rides (he has even more medals that ‘Blue Circle Boy’).

With the run up to the Olympics, Lee is a very busy man. He gave me a quick run through of his diary dates for April and I must say that I was overwhelmed with amount of work commitments that Lee has, he is very committed to his sport. Highlights included a photo shoot with renowned artist Andrew Salgedo, a ‘Daily Mail’ interview, a ‘Daily Telegraph’ video and lifestyle report. Not to mention the various competitions including the Winter Championships, part of three selection events for the Olympics where Lee won his class. Zeon, Lee’s KWPN Royal Dutch Warmblood, had a terrible dose of colic that was nearly fatal, but thankfully he was given the all clear and a clean bill of health later in the month. A vaulting team visited Lee’s yard to trial ‘Blue Circle Boy’ to be the team horse, he was selected to join the team, Lee’s comment was ‘it’s a good job he enjoyed being lunged!’. Lee rode around the streets of London for this BT advert, which is beautifully shot >

Life is certainly not dull for Lee Pearson CBE!
